CLIENT: Midtown Greenway Coalition | DATE: July, 2017 For the 2017 Minneapolis Greenway Glow, Second Sight Visuals won installation rights to two spots along the cross-city bike path. The first was a remix of our Apello project. Instead of utilizing feedback, we made a random line generator where the shape could be controlled by the participant. Often children using the program would get to places that we didn't even know were possible. It was exciting to see them learn to control the outcome. Secondly was a lumia installation that ran a slowed down version of Emergence to cast a colorful lighting array underneath the bridge. Along with this were the cubes from What Do You See MN? These had been outfitted with sound reactive LEDs so the voices and music of the night were translated into color. APELLO Lumia

CLIENT: N/A | DATE: July, 2017 What happens to light when you try and control it's path? What about when you feed it into itself in a timeless, shapeless void? These were questions that needed to be answered. The pictures below serve as evidence of these trials. Enjoy at your own discretion.

Apello in a nutshell is an interactive rainbow machine. Point it at anything you wish had rainbows.
Using VDMX we build out several iterations to work in unique situations. The white light is controlled and mapped in the program and then shot through a prism to give it the angelic, dancing spectrum you see. The first application was for a party at a hotel. Seeing their cool, but bland, sculpture on the stairs as you walk in inspired me to hijack it and augment it with light and rainbows. Apello was also featured with an interactive element at a local artist meetup. Here you could control it's movement and growth via a wii controller. The content itself utilized the audio of the space to build a spectragram in real time as well. CLIENT: N/A | DATE: May, 2017 Blended Light lives at the intersection of projection and long exposure photography. Here I used the projection mapping program, HeavyM, to create unique geometries that contain changing colors and video content. One I selected the movement of each piece, I used my Canon T3i to play with the exposure length while manipulating it to blur and mix the shapes. The outcome is a spacey, mixed palette of pixels. CLIENT: Trent Kim | DATE: February, 2017 After posting a few light art projects in the Facebook group, The Psychedelic Light Show Preservation Society, my work was picked up by Trent Kim who was hosting an international symposium on the topic and invited me to attend and present. Given this incredible opportunity, I got right to it. My presentation focused on how I had used light reflection and refraction with the help of technology to create modern light sculptures. CLIENT: N/A | DATE: December, 2016 Merry Xmas to me! Santa brought your boy a brand new fog machine. He probably had no idea what i wanted to do with it. The first experiment was to project on to it (of course). I wanted to use custom projected visuals to create colorful clouds that stand still in time. Mission accomplished? The best results came from projecting visuals with high saturation and color to allow the camera to really pick up the full range. Also, VDMX Rutt Etra effect with scan lines helped to create a laser-like effect with multiple layers within the smoke. CLIENT: N/A | DATE: June, 2016 What do you do when beings from outer space arrive? You throw them a party. I wanted to create a holistic experience under the cloak of a party. To have creative control over every aspect of the event and create an experiential gallery for my friends to test out... without them knowing it. I created a number of elements including sound and visual design, lighting, props and interactive devices that all ladder up to prepping for and having aliens join us here on Earth. Follow along as I walk you through the event. But first, the recap video. HUMAN SCANNER All humans were required to be scanned. By mashing up visual cues and adding in some sound design, I created a full scale projected experience. LIQUID LIGHT BAR Guests were invited to interact with a reflective covered table and LEDs to warp the light as they saw fit. |
